Gardenia plants are shrubs or small trees that produce beautiful white, fragrant flowers and deep green, glossy leaves. They are slow growers. The soil should be kept moist and well drained. The leaves should be misted regularly. Gardenias should be kept in the sun, but in very hot regions should have some shade. They usually bloom in the cooler temperatures of fall and winter, but may also produce a few blooms in the summer. The summer blooms will probably turn out less blooms in the winter, so removing the summer buds as soon as they are detected should help with winter blooming.
